To erase individual messages, you have to open each message first. Do this by clicking on the Actions button and select Erase Messages.
You will see all your messages with this good friend, with checkboxes on the side of each message. Select the messages you wish to delete by 'inspecting' the box beside the message, or just click on the Delete all button.
