How Do I Cancel Facebook - I'm ill of the never-ending privacy changes at Facebook, annoyed that I have in good faith went into a ton of details about myself and my social circles, just to have them continuously fine-tune and fiddle things so that they can get more visibility and make more money, all while compromising my privacy. Exactly what's up with that, Zuckerberg?? I'm done. How can I cancel, erase, erase, axe, eliminate my account?

I can absolutely sympathize with you. It's the only website I know where I need to go through the privacy settings and ensure things haven't "progressed" to leave my info, connections and information more exposed to either search engine spiders or the general public than I desire. Truly, it's pretty incredibly lame on their part in a society where people grumble all the time about loss of personal privacy in the digital world.
That's another topic, however, I suppose.:-.

If you make sure that you do want to erase your Facebook account then here's how you do that.

Are you sure that's exactly what you wish to do, however, instead of simply going into the privacy settings and reducing your direct exposure?

Okay, okay. Here are the actions ...
Go to "Account Settings":.

Once your there, scroll down and at the bottom you'll discover:.

Click on the "shut off" link on the right and you'll see an extensive list of reasons you might desire to leave. They're gathering information, certainly:.

Seems like your concern is about personal privacy, so if you choose "I have a privacy issue" you'll discover a little editorial commentary from the Facebook team:.

A bit lower down you can also define that people sending you friend welcomes (etc) will or will not trouble you:.

Once again, I 'd say you need to believe thoroughly prior to you examine this alternative, however if you really desire to never have Facebook darken your e-mail doorstep once again, this is how to do it.

In either case, click "Deactivate My Account" if you're sure that's what you wish to do. Now it's time to go through the onslaught, starting with your password again (simply in case somebody sees you logged in and chooses it 'd be a terrific practical joke to delete your account):.

Remembered your password? Good. Now show you're not a robotic:.

This CAPTCHA requires the words "Society" "darneder" (whatever that means). Get in those properly and click "Send".

Success! The account is officially shut down, removed, erased and ... um, simply a sec. As you can see from the text above, Facebook does not seem to delete your details, just shut down the account. I'm guessing that's not what you desire, however it's the best you can do.

By the way, a few minutes later on you'll get an e-mail from Facebook about your deactivated Facebook account:.

So now you understand. That's the best you can do, and it does successfully closed down your Facebook account and avoid anybody else from using your e-mail address in the future.
