Is He Stalking Me On Facebook
UPDATE: Well, this post has produced quite a bit of argument! Listed below, five thoughtful theories trying to solve this pressing mystery:
- The "It's Individuals YOU Look For" Theory
An enthusiastic reader writes: "jesus ... PLEASE correct that facebook post. it's the 5 individuals whom YOU LOOK FOR usually ... not the other way around. it's driving me insane reading through all the remarks seeing individuals getting mad at facebook for absolutely no factor."
- The "It's A Coding Error" Theory
From a Facebook conversation thread: "I suspect it's implied to be individuals whose profiles you take a look at the most, but that they're referring to the incorrect statistics (human coding error) and it's really the 5 who look at yours many.
I think it's a mistake since Facebook would not do something like that deliberately, it breaks their values of anonymous surfing, but it certainly refers to a statistic that they're keeping, and between the [restricted] details that the coding context offers and the nature of the names (after cross-referencing with 7 of my good friends), I 'd state they're inadvertently phoning the 5 individuals who browse you the most."
- The "Browse Frequency" Theory
A reader tries to parse the Facebook algorithm: "I have a theory. I think it's matching the frequency of times that you look for somebody with the frequency of times that people search for you and it's an attempt at analyzing who your buddies are."
- The "It's NOT The Individuals You Browse For" Theory
A commenter attempts the process of elimination: "eek-- fine so i went on my secret stalking-only facebook page, where i have no friends, and tried it. absolutely nothing turned up, which makes sense, cause it's a whack name. however, individuals i use it to stalk didn't appear either, which means it can not be tracking the individuals we stalk."
- The "Facebook States You Like These Individuals" Theory
A commenter declares to go directly to the source: "OK, my friend emailed her good friend that works for the Good Book and here was the action (focus mine): This is the canned reaction we've been using:
The five good friends that you see listed below the search box are populated based upon individuals whom we believe you 'd be most thinking about. Considering different elements, we try to make an educated guess regarding who it is you're trying to find when you begin typing a name in the search box.
Please keep in mind that this information is just visible to you and will not be shared with your good friends. We hope that this function is helpful and we appreciate your feedback. Let me understand if you have more questions."
